Unbiased Investment Advice
Client: Philanthropist with significant inherited funds
Situation: Our charitably inclined and socially responsible client requires a unique asset allocation strategy that follows environmental, social and governance (ESG) objectives as well as a core/satellite investment strategy. The strategy also mandates use of alternative investments such as hedge and timber funds.
Solution: We engaged an investment consultant and used manager database tools to identify “best-in-class” advisors to deliver to each specific asset type for this client’s allocation strategy. We monitor each advisor on an ongoing basis as well as evaluate the overall mix for proper correlation factors and risk-adjusted returns. We meet with our client semi-annually to review results and discuss strategy.
Result: We have assisted our client in gaining access to private market investments with unique investment objectives. The portfolios are constructed to deliver both market returns from the core and excess risk-adjusted returns from the satellite investments. ESG portfolio strategies also help our client to “do good” as a priority but also to “do well” by his investments.
